For his recital performance, 1996 Honens competition laureate Eugene Watanabe has programmed a set of works representative of the breadth and variety of the country from which they were composed. Rediscovering America presents works both well-known and unknown – including a reconstruction of the solo piano score of Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue by Gershwin scholar Alice Zizzo.

“4 1/2 stars out of five” – Edmonton Journal

“Watanabe’s Rhapsody is lush and thoughtful. He gets the fitfulness of the piece right without relying on excesses to create the music’s nervous energy.” – Edmonton Journal
